The levels of assimilable potassium and organic carbon in the olive orchard were analysed in 6 properties in the district of La Loma (province of Jaén) under the tree canopy, where leaves are left to accumulate on the ground in open soil and in shade, and in the middle of the lanes where the soil is bare and in the sun. The present study was done at different soil depths to analyse the spatial distribution of nutrients.
At the fist two centimetres of depth, significant differences were found under the crowns and in the centre of the lanes, both in the amount of organic carbon and in the assimilable potassium.
Key Words: Olive orchard, soil, nutrients levels, assimilable potassium, organic carbon.
