The olive grove soils of Extremadura an Alentejo (Portugal) are characterized to present very low levels of organic matter, nitrogen and available phosphorus. In order to evaluate the effects to available P and other soil properties of the direct application of olive mills waste from continuous two-phase centrifuge system, a field experiment in a irrigate olive grove was performed.
The soils was amended with the following treatments: chemical fertilization (TF), 65 and 130 Mg ha-1 (T1 and T2) of olive mills waste, 27 and 54 Mg ha-1 (T3 and T4) of residues extracted for oil and not amended (T0). The results, although preliminary, suggest significant differences in soil available P between treatments. similar results are find for soil nitrogen and organic matter. The application of olive mills waste from continuous two-phase centrifuge system and residues extracted for oil cause a beneficial effect in selected soil properties.
