Abstract
Five dolomite quarries located in the province of Granada are studied. Original soil is characterized in each one and the degree of differentiation is established between them. Original soil propeties are compared with the ones in soil after opencast mining, the degradation level is established in each quarry. Cation exchange capacity and organic matter content are the most affected parameters, following on macronutrients (N, P, K) and moisture retention capacity. Depending on the degradation level on each opencast mining, the quantity to increase each property to get the resultant soil with similar properties to the ones on the original soil is established.
Key words: Opencast mining, dolomite, soil degradation, restoration.
