Abstract. The purpose of sampling in Soil Science is to estimate certain characteristics of the population by means of a statistically representative sample. The proposed objective of this work is to analyze the techniques that are usually used in the sampling strategies and to establish the degree of practical utility of each one of them. The results obtained show that, in relation to the sampling strategy, the stratified random sampling have a great practical utility together with the sampling error; while, with technique of the corrected variance we obtain a result not entirely satisfactory for the study of populationís parameters.

Key words: sample size, soil physical properties.
