Abstract

Since there are no previous studies about soils that have developed on turbidites, the following paper constitutes a comprehensive study of four profiles developed on these materials in the Eastern side of Minorca Island. The zone where these profiles are located is used for different activities. For the execution of this work, factors of soils formation, physicochemical characteristics and agrologic properties of all of them have been analysed. The study shows two different zones, for their morphological position that has a bearing on the genetic development, but not in their vocation of use. High bulk densities and low available water contents make them nonuseful for culture. A smoller erosion degree is noted in soils that conserved their natural vegetal cover. Although these soils have been little development, the differences observed allow the classification of each of them at family level.
