Abstract. Vertic soils abound in Andalusia and they have been developed under Mediterranean conditions at such latitude. The main use of this soils is the crop of cereal and leguminous plants, that is the reason why the objective of our work is to establish references values for trace elements both micronutrients and heavy metals. Mineralogy, organic matter, major and minor elements have been analyzed in order to study edaphic properties and trace elements correlation. The most abundant clay mineral is smectita (37%). Trace elements are strongly related to clay minerals, for example Co/smectite present a 0,817 correlation coefficient. The reference values obtained are(in µgg-1): As=7; Cd=0,5; Co=25; Cr=132; Cu=65, Ni=58; Pb=69; V=178 y Zn= 132
