Carbonatation/Decarbonatation

Definition

These processes are a result of the insolubility of carbonates as contrasted with the solubility of bicarbonates.

Water in the soil may dissolve the carbonates, changing them into bicarbonates which will be carried through the soil and then may precipitate, producing accumulations of carbonates. These are generally composed of calcite.
