The normal carbonate distribution

 

 

As both CO2 and water are more abundant in the superficial horizons (due to a higher degree of biological activity, more organic matter and a greater proximity to the water from atmospheric precipitation), the dissolution of carbonates will occur in these horizons.

They will then be transported by infiltration water and when they reach the lower horizons they will precipitate and accumulate, due to losses in CO2 and water.
